Citizenship lessons in Educational Spaces: Teaching history and civic duties to young South Asians in Qatar

South Asians form the biggest migrant community in Qatar, together they constitute almost 50-60% of the population. The South Asian diaspora is very varied, they practice multitudes of religious faiths, and belong to diverse socio-economic backgrounds. This project aims to develop (1) a publicly available report on the acculturation of the Indian diaspora in Qatar; (2) study comparatively how history and civic textbooks reflect and contribute towards the civic literacy of young South Asians within the secular spaces of private schools in Qatar; (3) create a methodological framework for studying the South Asian migrant community in Qatar; (4) contribute to the expanding field of diaspora studies by examining the South Asian migrant community in Qatar.
