See the World

Students have many opportunities to learn about the world outside of Qatar, and most will travel for learning experiences during their undergraduate education.

Global Learning Trips

Global Learning Trips are organized and led by faculty or staff members, and focus on topics that will expand students’ horizons. During academic breaks, these chaperoned trips encourage students to see the world in a new way, expand their personal and professional goals, engage in experiential learning, and share their takeaways with the CMU-Q community.

Global Learning Trips change every year. Here are just a few:
Exploring the intersection between technology, business and culture | Seoul, South Korea
Women’s empowerment | Dublin, Ireland
Food insecurity volunteer program | Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam
Art meets technology | Emilia-Romagna, Modena and Bologna, Italy
Unveiling Japan: Embracing tradition and innovation | Tokyo, Japan
Achieving carbon neutrality | Kathmandu, Nepal and Thimphu, Bhutan
AI Economics of the Future | London, UK
Sustainability and Perception | Oslo, Norway
IMPAQT: Initiating Meaningful Pittsburgh and Qatar Ties | Pittsburgh, USA
Study Abroad

Study Abroad

Nearly half of CMU-Q students spend a semester abroad, with most choosing to study at the home campus in Pittsburgh. This is an opportunity for students to challenge themselves academically by taking courses not offered in Qatar, as well as experience life on a larger campus.

Here is where students have gone in recent years:

  • Yonsei University
  • Semester at Sea
  • Kings College
  • University of Boconi
  • Carnegie Mellon University

Summer Learning Experiences

Each year, there are many opportunities for students to gain experience, and sometimes course credit, through international learning experiences. Some of the opportunities are led by the Qatar campus, and others by various colleges and departments at the Pittsburgh campus.

Here is where students have gone in recent years:

  • CMU-Q: European Innovation Academy in Portugal
  • CMU: Technology Consulting in the Global Community (TCinGC) in Palau, India and Ghana
  • CMU: Language summer programs in Jordan, Spain, Costa Rica, and China
  • CMU: Mellon College Summer Research Institute in Pittsburgh
