‘So you think you can drive?’ event highlights road safety

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar and Northwestern University in Qatar, in collaboration with the other Education City universities, hosted a road safety fair to raise awareness of the importance of careful driving. Collaborating with Qatar International Safety Centre (QISC) and Al Khebra Driving Academy, the fair featured interactive booths to teach the Education City community about the different elements of road safety.

Traffic accidents are one of the top health risks for people of every age in Qatar, and particularly for young adults. Each booth featured a different aspect of road safety, from vehicle maintenance to pedestrian awareness. Driving simulators gave students the opportunity to test their road skills on virtual Qatar streets.

“Road safety is such an important topic, and I think the students learned a lot. There are very simple things each of us can do to make the roads safer,” said Amie Rollins, director of health and wellness at CMU-Q and one of the organizers of the fair.
